Campaign to cut VAT to 5% on energy saving products
According to the Mirror website, one in ten homes are so cold they are officially classified as a health risk. A new report shows 2.2 million properties are so poorly insulated people are at an increased risk of suffering heart attacks and respiratory problems.
Campaigners want VAT cut to five per cent on all energy efficiency products, such as double glazing. National Housing Foundation chief David Orr said: “Cold homes can cause major health problems, particularly with the young and elderly. The Government needs to provide greater incentives for people to invest in energy efficiency.” If we really are to save energy as a nation, those less well off will need the assistance of govern lead initiatives government, such as a reduction to 5% VAT on energy saving products like energy rated windows, which do reduce heating bills, thereby saving money for that household.
