A timber front door that won’t go into warp drive

There is nothing worse than having splashed out for a new timber door, only to find out several months later it has gone into warp drive. Consequently it is worth UK home owners who decide they want a new timber front door carefully researching the product they are considering to ensure that this does not happen to them. Sadly all wooden front doors have the potential to twist and warp, so it is important to make sure any new replacement timber door is manufactured from materials not likely to do this, plus one that is designed and fabricated to prevent such a fate happening.

If you already have a wooden door, you’d be well advised to repair or repaint the door as soon as it shows even small cracks or paint peeling. No one can deny that wooden doors look good at the very outset, but their appearance can quickly suffer once weathering and rotting takes hold. Only thorough maintenance done regularly will sustain the aesthetics of timber, as it is vital not to allow water to penetrate, as if this happens, the wood will soon start to swell and warp, leaving your door in a right state. So if you do decide to replace your existing front door with a new timber one, choose a wood that will be weather resistant.

If you want to be enterprising and boldly go where others without the courage of their convictions bottle out, choose a high end engineered timber door for your front entrance. For example “Century Engineered Timber Doors” are not inexpensive high specification front doors with a solid core that is guaranteed not to move more than 1mm per square metre. This is achieved by the engineered core being made up of 3mm sections known as “Lamels”, and 1 in 4 Lamels being reversed to prevent any movement. These high class Century timber doors are edged or lipped on all sides with African Sapele hardwood known for its’ high density and stability, coming from the African Gaboon tree. Every Century engineered timbers door has a 100% dense Tricoya facings. Tricoya is an acid treated product, bathed in acid to draw out water, making the external face of the external and internal timber door sash more or less waterproof.

These unique engineered timber doors come in a choice of a 44mm engineered timber sash in a UPVC frame, or a very substantial 54mm engineered timber sash in a timber clad aluminium frame. All Century Timber Doors can be either single colour or dual colour, and are painted with 4 layers of high quality Farrow and Ball paint for extra durability. This special microporous Farrow and Ball paint allows the timber sash and timber clad aluminium outer frame to breathe, given all timber “sweats”, so it important all moisture can escape.

Century engineered timber front doors are extremely secure with high quality gaskets and closing seals that ensures effective weather-stripping. The Century engineered timber door is Secured by Design and comes with a Yale 3 star security 5-Pin cylinder, as well as a Winkhaus lock and high security multi-locking system as standard. The high security glazing bead on all Century doors is of boxed construction and interlocks with the door profiles so that it cannot be levered off without first removing the internal wedge gaskets.

Century doors are an investment that will last the passing of time as they are hand made in England by craftsmen. Such quality of design, fabrication and materials comes at an initial cost. However, it is a one-off outlay, as the Century door won’t go into warp drive, nor twist, swell or rot. Paying a bit more upfront to get a timber front door that will keep its looks and shape is more than likely to turn out to be well worthwhile.
