Bideford College Commercial Aluminium Windows Project Nearing Completion

Block A Bideford College Devon Nearing Completion March 2010 Hazlemere Commercial have almost finished the impressive and prestigious commercial windows, doors and curtain walling as part of Morgan Ashurst’s £44m sustainability building project. Hazlemere Commercial (whose head offices and factory are in High Wycombe, Bucks) designed, manufactured and installed all the aluminium commercial windows, doors and curtain walling for this sizeable redevelopment of Bideford College.

As you can see from the above photo of one section of Block A taken in March 2010, this substantial project is nearing completion, with all the double glazed aluminium windows (made from 100% recycled aluminium billet) having now been professionally installed by Hazlemere Commercial’s team of experienced expert fitters.

Hazlemere Commercial Invest in CNC Machine

Side View of Hazlemere Commercial Window Company’s CNC Machine In Autumn 2009, Hazlemere Commercial invested in a Computer Numerically Controlled cutting machine that directly links to software that the is utilized by the Commercial Manufacturing Division for estimating and production which is supplied by the system’s supplier Sapa (The CNC machine uses Sapa Logic).

This high tech CNC bit of manufacturing kit has a double head mitre saw utilising bar code labels/scanner, so consequently, speeds up the entire manufacturing process.

The accurate/routing preps achieved, are backed up by Sapa’s software database/machine links. Having invested in this technologically advanced machinery, it saves Hazlemere Commercial time and effort, as there is no longer a need for their operatives to be constantly setting up copy routers, measuring for location of preps, etc.

Bideford College £2.3m Sustainability Contract Looking Good

Hazlemere Commercial contract with main contractors Morgan Ashurst to install aluminium commercial doors, windows and curtain walling at Bideford College in Devon is due for completion during Spring 2010.

The £44m redvelopment itself however, is not due for final handover by Morgan Ashurst until Autumn 2010. Now Hazlemere Commercial have installed the vast majority of the energy saving double glazing aluminium windows and commercial doors, the internal works are well underway. One outstanding feature of this sustainability project is an aluminium sloping curtain wall 70 metre double glazed roof light fitted by Hazlemere Commercial’s expert team of installers. The aluminium commercial window and door frames for this contract have all been fabricated by Hazlemere Commercial in High Wycombe, Bucks using Sapa profile’s made from 100% re-cycled aluminium billet. This exciting "green" windows project is being funded under the Governments’s Building Schools for the Future scheme.

Hazlemere Commercial Grand Designs Windows Project Installation On Front Cover

Hazlemere Window Company’s 25th Anniversary Brochure contains editorial contributions from co-founder Stuart Braham (Managing Director) and Sales Director Tony Beale. This souvenir anniversary publication looks back at the company’s impressive track record in the commercial, retail and trade double glazing manufacturing sectors over the last 25 years. It also focuses in on the latest energy efficient energy saving double glazing products now available (especially "A" rated aluminium windows and "A" rated UPVC windows) and suggets how property owners can save money on their energy bills in the future.

The 25th anniversary magazine has useful articles on how to build a conservatory from scratch, tips on home improvement, details on the exciting Heritage Range of wood grain effect aluminium windows and doors double glazed products, plus explains about Hazlemere Commercial’s involvement with the Grand Designs windows project at the Decagon House, walled garden in Oxford in 2008. Commercial Window, Door & Curtain Walling Bideford College Installation Well Underway

Hazlemere Commercial Installing Bideford College’s New Aluminium Windows in Devon Hazlemere Commercial’s team of experienced fitters started installing the aluminium windows, commercial doors and curtain walling in the Spring of 2009, and are scheduled to remain on site till the Autumn. This exciting £2.2m double glazing project is unique in that all the window frames are being manufactured by Hazlemere Commercial using recycled aluminium billet at their 18,000 square feet premises in High Wycombe, Bucks.

Hazlemere Commercial won the Quantal Commercial Installation of the Year Award for their 2008 project at Lane End Primary School Installation in Edmonds Road, Lane End, High Wycombe, Bucks. They won in the Edcation Sector Category for this Bucks County Council School project which involved the construction of a new entrance lobby with an Quantal aluminium glazed roof to increase security and management of people access.

As Hazlemere Commercial are on the Buckinghamshire County Council’s Approved List of Suppliers, they were chosen by Lane End Primary School for this project on recommendation from Bucks County Council, as proven manufacturers and installers of bespoke aluminium glazing systems. This award winning installation involved a range of products including Sapa Dualframe 75 aluminium casement windows, Sapa 202 aluminium commercial entrance doors and a Quantal glazed aluminium roofing system. Hazlemere Commercial Secures £2.2m Bideford College Aluminium Windows, Doors and Curtain Walling Contract

Hazlemere Commercial has secured a £2.2 million contract to manufacture, supply and install all the curtain walling, doors and windows for the new Bideford College campus in Devon which will accommodate 1,800 students.

The façade design planning process began in March 2007 and the completion date on site is set for September 2009, which gives an indication of the detail that is involved in a project of this scale. Hazlemere’s tender presentation had to address such detailed issues as the ventilation requirements and the distance to the site for transport and logistics. The company was also able to demonstrate an excellent track record in managing complex site programmes on large projects.

One unique thing about this contract is that Hazlemere Commercial will be manufacturing the Dualframe 75mm Casement windows from 100% recycled aluminium supplied by Sapa Building Systems. As well as offering superb thermal performance, Hazlemere aluminium windows, doors and curtain walling are all infinitely recyclable. According to ALFED (Aluminium Federation), up to 98% of the aluminium in a building can be reclaimed for recycling at the end of its life.

Around 60% of the world’s primary aluminium is smelted using power generated from hydro-electric plants, which is in turn a natural and renewable energy source. This power does not produce harmful emissions but nonetheless the industry has further driven the use of aluminium obtained from "secondary" or recycled material which requires just 5% of the original energy used during primary production.

Construction company Morgan Ashurst - one of the UK’s leading builders of education facilities - is constructing the new £44 million scheme under the Government’s £2 billion Building Schools for the Future (BSF) Programme. The new buildings, which will replace the existing Bideford College, will be a model for sustainability, both in construction and environmental management.

In 2007 Hazlemere became the first company in the UK to design, manufacture and install an "A" rated dual frame aluminium energy saving window system using Sapa materials.

Hazlemere Commercial’s Grand Designs

A Hazlemere Commercial windows and doors installation was featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs in January 2008, following our involvement in the glazing of a stunningly contemporary copper-roofed, decagon-shaped house in Oxford. The house was built for Henry Chopping, a commercial surveyor with an eye for perfection and a desire to use only the very best materials. Kevin McCloud the programme’s presenter followed the build project from start to finish and remarked on the sheer quality of the materials and craftsmanship that went into making this project a reality.

Grand Designs presenter Kevin McCloud, had this to say about the Decagon House: "This place may not be to your taste, but there’s no denying it’s got real strength of character. It may not be beautiful, but it is fascinating, In fact if it were a spa hotel, I think I’d rather enjoy staying here. If it were a monastery for the brotherhood of bling, it would be my kind of monastery. That’s because any suggestion of personal indulgence here is overshadowed by the craftsmanship, by the quality of the fabric of the building. And it was Henry who commissioned all those craftsmen - who commissioned this building. I think that, in a way, sort of makes him an old fashioned patron. And there arent enough of those."
