Government proposals mean replacement windows will need "C" Energy Rating from 1st October 2010

Current Government proposals to amend Part L of the Building Regulations in England & Wales are likely to come into force from 1st October 2010. If these come into force (and there is no reason to think that they will not), these Governement changes, to ensure all new and existing properties in the UK are more energy efficient, will have massive implications for not only homeowners but the entire double glazing industry.

Former Dr Who Colin Baker discusses the merits of a Government National Window Scrappage Scheme

The former Dr Who, Colin Baker wrote about Hazlemere Window Company and reducing energy consumption in his weekly "Look Who's Talking" column in the Bucks Free Press. The article, published on page 15 of the Bucks Free Press on Friday 4th December 2009, entitled "Marky sparks me into action", praised the potential merits of a government national scrappage window scheme. As Colin Baker the former Dr Who explains in his column the title "Marky sparks me into action" refers to "Mark Austin, the marketing director of Hazlemere Windows, a family business, currently delebrating its 25th anniversary as a local, independent manufacturer and supplier of windows and conservatories; and independent and local are both good in my book."

Hazlemere Window Company support GGF's proposal for a National Window Scrappage Scheme

Many consumers have been going online to find out if there really is a government national windows scrappage scheme. Sadly at present there is not, although the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) is leading the call for one, having set up an online petition to ask the Prime Minster to introduce one.

A financially helpful scheme, similar to the national car scrappage scheme would surely help hard pressed home owners, especially during a recession? A company called Europlas recently put out a press release entitled "Will the GGF proposed national scrappage scheme save our planet".

Clearly such media coverage won't save the planet, but if introduced it would help householders who take it up reduce their heating bills, help the UK environment, as well as assist double glazing installers in these challenging times, who are faced with rising raw material costs and a mature declining market.
