Government tighten rules on conservatory construction

I came across a genuinely interesting article posted on the Telegraph website on Tuesday 2nd December entitled “Government rules will make new conservatories kinder to the environment.” If you ever considering buying a conservatory it is one of the most helpful articles you can read, as it emphasises how essential it is to ensure you use energy efficient glass throughout your conservatory installation, or you will end up paying the price through increased energy bills in the future.

I know from visiting homes with conservatories that it is true most homeowners tend to leave the French Doors or Sliding Patio Doors that lead onto their conservatory open, or in some cases have had them removed post installation so that their conservatory becomes an integral part of their home. This is great in the Summer, but not so great in the Winter when the heating system has to work harder to heat the whole area, especially if the conservatory has not been fitted with energy saving windows and highly efficient glass, something we at Hazlemere strongly recommend, as the most cost effective time to fit this is during construction. It can be fitted afterwards, but then you are paying twice, so my advice is to research the market, get free professional advice to ensure you install the most cost effective glass (long term) for your situation, which will depend on your property’s aspect, etc. etc.

Most Hazlemere Conservatories customers opt for the most suitable double glazing for their conservatory to ensure they keep them as warm in Winter and as cool in Summer as possible. Very few opt for the cheaper polycarbonate roofs, not only because they are less energy efficient, but also because they tend to be noisy when it rains, but obviously do not look as nice as glass!
