ORANGERIES

A Hazlemere orangery is an exceptional extension, tailored to your home and lifestyle.
Choosing an Orangery or Conservatory?

It can be a difficult decision whether to opt for an orangery or conservatory. An orangery tends to include more brick or aluminium pillars for a heightened sense of privacy and warmth. With a deluxe feel, orangeries are solid structures that often mirror the existing style of your home, providing an additional room that can be utilised all year long.

An orangery is a bespoke installation, unique to you and your home and we want to help you design the living space you’ve always wanted. If you have decided an orangery is your ideal choice, you will then need to decide between a traditional or contemporary orangery.

Your orangery in one of many hundreds of colours and finishes…

The frames of the roof, windows and doors of your orangery can come in any number of stylish coloured UPVC and aluminium finishes. The frame and roof style you opt for will to some extent determine the colour options that you will be able to choose from, but you will not find yourself short of options as there are traditional and modern shades available, together with a selection of woodgrain effect finishes.

All our powder coated aluminium finishes are of the highest quality, and are fade resistant...

The colour found on contemporary Aluminium is powder coated finish that is very hard wearing and will not fade. Powder coated aluminium can come in gloss, matt, or stain finishes to give it that natural feel and look. Powder coated finishes are available in different thicknesses, even a “marine finish” for properties that are near the English coastline.

An orangery is a place you should enjoy in total comfort...

There are four styles of glass glazed roof: Classic Roof, Cornice Roof, Lantern Roof and Tiled Roof. The straight forwardness of a classic orangery roof is one of its most appealing attributes, as is its ability to facilitate a large expanse of glass. Because of its minimalism, it can be applied to varied shaped and sized orangeries even if it happens to be a complex or bespoke design.

The presence of one or more lantern roofs, also known as atrium roofs, was a regular feature of the orangeries that existed in previous centuries. However, nowadays they look significantly different to how they did in the past. Thanks to modern technology and innovation, the performance of lantern roofs has advanced rapidly in recent years and they offer so much more than their predecessors. They sit comfortably on top of an orangery and deliver spectacular views of the world above.

Choosing roofing tiles that match those of the main building will keep your house and orangery in-sync...

A tiled roof is a different proposition altogether and while overhead light and views are sacrificed to some extent, the external look and internal feel of a solid roof orangery is something that a glass roof can match. Light may be sacrificed but privacy is gained, and roof windows and integrated spotlights will ensure that you’re never left in the dark.

Choosing roofing tiles that match those of the main building will keep your house and extension in-sync and tiled roofs are not just reserved for new build projects – they can also be used to refurbish an existing orangery.

Crafted window handles...

High quality window and door handles will add to the overall success of your new conservatory, and we’ll help you choose just the right style and colour to suit.
Not forgetting the importance of security. That’s why each one of our handles has a secure locking system.

LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR ORANGERIES

Orangeries are a fantastic way to add a living space to your home, but if you’re considering installing one it’s nor al to have questions. We’ve answered some of our most commonly asked questions below about our orangeries to help you decide if this is the right extension style for your property. If you have any other questions or would like advice on extending your home, contact our team or visit our showroom.

What is the difference between a conservatory and an orangery?

Conservatories and orangeries have distinct characteristics that set them apart.

Just from their design and construction you can identify a disparity in looks between conservatories and orangeries.

Conservatories are almost entirely made of glass, with lots of glass panels throughout their structure and a glass roofing system, creating an outdoorsy feel within them that’s fully insulated. An indoor space it may be, but being sat inside a conservatory feels akin to being amongst nature outside and the brightness it offers is somewhat responsible for that.

In contrast, orangeries take their design inspiration from traditional brick-built extensions and conservatories. More brickwork is present in the walls of their structure, giving them a mass solidity, and with ample glazing, they too capture good volumes of natural light. There’s a luxuriousness about orangeries that befits their use as dining spaces, home offices, and areas for entertaining.

The main resemblance is that conservatories and orangeries both provide invaluable extra space and help you feel strongly bonded to the outdoor world each time you get to enjoy them.

Why should you install an orangery?

An orangery installation has a wealth of advantages.

Your home will be far better off for the installation of a new orangery, don’t doubt that for a second! It’s an extraordinary fusion of high-end construction and all-embracing glazing and couldn’t possibly be mistaken for any other form of home extension.

An orangery’s seamless amalgamation of brick walls, vast glass expanses, and a glass or solid roof, is why it has a pronounced indoor/outdoor type of atmosphere. Such is the adaptability of the orangery it can function as anything from an extravagant dining spot to a fully equipped office. Exceptionally insulated, orangery usage will not be dictated by the weather.

Aside from the various potential functions of orangeries, they just radiate sophistication and never fail to enrich existing home architecture. If the kerb appeal of your property has been gradually lost over the years, adding an orangery will instantly return it.

What roof should you choose for your orangery?

Orangeries are so reliant on their roofing systems.

In the selection of a roof for a new orangery, we advocate consideration of aesthetics, functionality, and thermal comfort.

The lantern roof is identifiable for having a centrally raised glass panel surrounded by small glass panels. This arrangement induces a large amount of natural light into orangery spaces, establishing a hugely inviting ambience. Its style is very much a fusion of classic and contemporary design.

Flat roofs are the epitome of modern roofing excellence. A remarkably sleek solution, they are well-liked by householders seeking a system that exhibits modern minimalism. Rooflights or skylights can be integrated into the flat roof to incite extra natural light transference.

Also, up for contention is the tiled roof, which uses realistic, hard-wearing tiles and slates and complements an orangery’s versatility. Tiled roofs blend in superbly well with existing home architecture, offer top-level insulation, and great acoustic performance. They ensure that an orangery is relentlessly snug inside and feels private and secluded.

At the end of the day, your chosen roof needs to meet the purpose of the orangery design, its overall styling, and what you like most. Obtain any required advice on roof buying from a Hazlemere advisor.

Which doors can you add to an orangery?

A feature door can be at the heart of an orangery design.

Assimilation of a feature door into an orangery will let you open the structure to the outdoors as and when it suits you.

The fashionability of a bi-folding door is credited to its unique opening method, one that allows you to fully fold the door back so that it’s almost completely out of the way.

Triple track doors maximise any external view due to their remarkably slender frames and expansive opening.

A sliding or hinged patio door is the very definition of a classic feature door and will establish an exotic access point for walking in and out of the orangery.

French doors also rightfully hold classic status and provide the most charming entrance, whilst pumping floods of light inside.

Your nominated feature door needs to align with your taste, the type of orangery design you create, and how it will function. Don’t hesitate to talk to a Hazlemere advisor for guidance on feature doors.
