The Energy Saving Trust website states that “All properties lose heat through their windows. But energy-efficient glazing keeps your home warmer and quieter as well as reducing your energy bills”
In fact an IPSOS MORI survey commissioned by the Energy Saving Trust between 28th September and 2nd October 2012, found that out of the 2,000 UK adults surveyed, replacement double glazing is the most popular green upgrade, with 22% of UK property owners very interested in carrying out double glazing improvements with insulation being the next most popular requirement with 21% of home owners, and 15% being interested in having an energy monitor installed.
The research identified a real North-South divide, with 71% of homes in the North East being the “most likely” to have the highest percentage of double glazing already done, with London being the “least likely” at 49% to have double glazed homes. The 2012 MORI survey last autumn also found that 22% of UK home owners had purchased double glazing in the preceding 12 months and that an astonishing 52% said they are considering doing so, which is good news for double glazing suppliers and installers, particularly in the South of England.
The costs and savings for home owners prepared to invest in replacement energy-efficient double or triple glazing varies from house to house, and location to location for lots of reasons. These factors include the type of window (i.e. casement, sliding sash, tilt and turn etc.), the size of the window, what material(s) it is made from, construction of the existing property and quality of the installer’s fitting.
What the Energy Saving Trust survey results from the 2012 consumer research made clear is that there are still far too many homes in the UK (particularly in the South of England) without adequate double glazing, which logically are running up higher energy bills than neighbouring properties who have invested in modern energy rated replacement double glazed windows and doors.
