What Is A Solid Tiled Roof Orangery?

Orangeries have significantly evolved in terms of how they’re utilised and how they look since they were originally developed in the 17th Century.

Whereas back then they were predominantly used for growing oranges and other citrus trees, nowadays they’re solely used as extended living spaces and very lavish ones at that. The original orangery design has also changed during these intervening years, up to the point where we now have solid tiled roof orangeries available.

A solid tiled roof is made up of lightweight tiles / slates and it’s a wise choice of roofing system for orangeries as it helps to make them look like a natural extension of a house, rather than something that has very obviously been added on.

Within the roof is an insulated plywood and rigid insulation board which is why a solid tiled roof delivers exceptional temperature control, assuring an orangery owner of an all-year round space. This eliminates the possibility of an orangery succumbing to the weather and becoming completely out of bounds when the weather is either extremely hot or extremely cold. The level of insulation offered will keep heat bills down.

Customers are advised though that the inclusion of a solid tiled roof in their orangery can cause a loss of natural light, but don’t let this put you off them. Roof windows and glass panels can be added to ensure that the inside of an orangery is sufficiently illuminated without the possibility of you being overly dazzled by the glare of the sun.

You can also give the interior of a tiled roof a plastered finish, something you very obviously can’t do with a transparent glass roof, which when done properly will look absolutely stunning. It can be done in a way that complements your chosen décor.

The best way of deciding if a solid tiled roof orangery is for you is to see one at your nearest Hazlemere showroom.
