Energy Companies Accused Of Neglecting Needy UK Households

The rising cost of energy in the UK over the past few years has left thousands of less well-off homes desperately struggling to afford the cost of their heating bills.
Because of this, a scheme called the Community Energy Saving Programme was introduced in 2009 by the government which requires our major energy companies to offer energy efficiency measures for free or at a very low cost to households in deprived communities.
However, it has been reported that the Big Six energy firms look set to fail to meet their obligations and have asked that the deadline is put back. Shadow energy minister Caroline Flint has stated that this is simply unacceptable:

“Energy companies are failing to keep their side of the deal and help families and pensioners make their homes warmer and more energy efficient. If the energy companies can’t sort this out themselves, then Ofgem and the Government must not let them off the hook. They need to step in and ensure that the companies put their profits to proper use and meet their obligations, before this scheme finishes.”
It seems to be a recurring theme that families are finding it increasingly difficult to cope financially with the cost of household energy. Fuel poverty figures continue to rise and without sufficient help people could be putting their health or even their lives at risk.
Hazlemere are a great advocate of energy efficient products such as aluminium doors, aluminium windows and aluminium conservatories as we know just how effective they are at cutting the cost of fuel bills and restoring all-year round warmth to the home.
