In early April we got a call from our customers Mr and Mrs W. They already have a Hazlemere conservatory at their home in Hertfordshire but were now pondering on a freestanding garden room in a sunny corner of their garden and wanted to check if it is something we could help with. We were obviously delighted to hear from them again and their project definitely sounded like something we could get excited about.
David, from the Hazlemere design team, had an initial phone chat with Mr & Mrs W, making sure we fully understood their brief. The couple wanted a chill out space that sometimes could be used for office working, but would generally be a relaxing space to enjoy leisure time away from the main house. The style could be in keeping with the existing aluminium conservatory but they were open to a contemporary design and they were keen to have a solid roof with an overhang to create a shaded area on very hot days.
With a home visit made impossible due to lockdown restrictions Mr & Mrs W were not sure how far they’d be able to get with their plans. They certainly had the time at home to really think through what they needed from the new space, and plenty of discussion time on preferred designs. Whilst we are all spending more time at home with our families it really helps concentrate the mind on how we would like to improve our current living spaces.
With the conversation flowing via phone, email and live video call it was easy for the designer to get a handle on what was needed and communication was still key to the successful outcome. David put together an initial design based on the discussions and created a 3D walkthrough to illustrate exactly what he was proposing. The beauty of these videos is that they can be watched, re-watched and paused as you and the family discuss what you like, what you think works and aspects that you’d like to tweak.
Mrs W was thinking about colour, a shade of green to compliment the garden, but wasn’t sure if that was the right way to go. No problem, a visual of her aluminium frames in two different colour options helps with these important decisions.
A live video call followed to move on the design and version two of the 3D walkthrough was produced. Ticking all the boxes and showing the couple exactly what they will be getting, Mr and Mrs W were now more than happy to proceed to quote stage. We had the usual questions to clarify relating to access, planning and boundaries and then a fully costed scheme was put together, no need to just give budget figures and no nasty surprises down the line.
Without ever meeting face to face we can illustrate very clearly what a completed extension will look like and advise the all-important level of investment with detailed costings. But we can’t wait to see Mr & Mrs W face to face again, when we start creating their dream addition to their home.
