How To Stay Cosy At Home This Christmas
We do different things within our dwellings to get ourselves in the spirit and capture that fuzzy festive feeling, such as cracking open the mulled wine and mince pies and blasting out our favourite Christmas tunes.
But it all begins with cosiness and that goes beyond just getting into your snug Christmas pyjamas and being curled up and cocooned in your thickest blankets and throws.
Make your fireplace a festive focal point
The tree is the centrepiece of most people’s Christmas decorations, but your fireplace can be turned into as much of a focus of attention and give off the same warm and cosy feel.
A hot new trend is to attach a wreath to the wall space above a fireplace – if you thought wreaths were purely reserved for front doors at Christmas, think again.
In amongst any foliage that you traditionally place on or near your mantel, you could also spell out a seasonal message of ‘Merry Christmas’ or ‘Ho Ho Ho’ in neon lighting.
Put fairy lights in glass bottles and jars
It’s party season and if you have plans to host some kind of pre-Christmas gathering, keep hold of any empty glass bottles and jars.
For bottles, remove any trace of labelling, give it a good clean and drill a hole into the base of the bottle that’s big enough for you to thread some battery-powered LED lights (in white or red) through, tinkering with them until you find a great arrangement.
If that sounds too much like hard work, you can buy some bottles that are already done for you, fit for displaying on window sills, dining tables etc. to add a little magic at Christmas time.
Hang photos of treasured Christmas memories
Christmas is when so many lasting family memories are made and a great time for bonding with those closest to us.
Remind yourself of these happy recollections with displays of photographs of you and others enjoying past Christmases on personalised baubles, in snow globes or on some photo wall art consisting of cascading polaroid pictures (here’s a good example) that you can hang on a prominent wall.
